Beginning My Journey into the Gallery World

As the title says, my 2025 goal is to get my art into a gallery. I thought this would be a great way to gain exposure, sell my art, and maybe even get some commissions.

I figured, “Oh, I’ll just apply to one open call for artists every month, and by the end of the year, I’ll have my work in a gallery once a month.” Easy, right?

Oh boy, was I wrong!

How full of myself I must have been to think it would be that simple.

As of today, January 22nd, I’ve applied to three open calls. I’ve already faced my first rejection. And you know what? That first "no" has me preparing for more. How foolish I was to think I could get into a gallery every month by applying to just one call. Suddenly, the $30-$50 per application fee doesn’t seem so cheap anymore.

I got some advice from a fellow artist: Prepare for 30 rejections. It’s not because my art isn’t good or I lack talent—it’s just that I might not always have what the juror or gallery is looking for. Plus, open calls are often flooded with artists all vying for the same spot.

That advice really made me realize just how much more expensive this journey could get. If I apply to 30 open calls, even at $15 per submission (a low fee), that’s $450 spent on trying to get noticed and accepted—most likely with more rejections.

But I’m not giving up. This is just the beginning, and I’m determined to keep pushing forward. Rejection won’t stop me. I’m just getting started, and I’m ready to keep trying until I find my place in a gallery.
